SP Performance offers three types of coatings to protect against rust and corrosion. Our coatings are:

DRILLED & SLOTTED

SP Performance Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors provide the best combination for out-gassing and cooling.

SLOTTED

SP Performance Slotted Rotors contain a series of slots which forces the gasses to expel keeping the rotors and pads cool.

DIAMOND SLOTTED

SP Performance Diamond Slotted Rotors were created to maximize out-gassing with a series of slots and diamonds while looking great.

Performance Brake Rotors vs. Stock Brake Rotors

The question we get asked the most is whats the benefit of Performance Brake Rotors over the stock plain brake rotors. Well the answer is simple. When the Brake Rotor and the Brake Pads make contact, a gas is created which builds up between the two components. This gas pushes the brake pad away from the rotor, making both components work harder to stop the vehicle. By adding the Cross Drilled Holes and Slots to the face of the rotor, this allows the gasses to escape, keeping both the Brake Pads and Brake Rotors cooler and increasing stopping power. Secondly, the Slots (Slotted Rotors, Drilled and Slotted, Diamond Slotted) serve as an escape for the brake dust and water from the road, keeping the wheels cleaner.

Semi-Metallic Pads vs. Ceramic Pads

So what exactly is the difference between Semi-Metallic Brake Pads and Ceramic Brake Pads? Semi-Metallic Brake Pads are performance for most of the vehicles on the road today, including Compact, Mid-range and Heavy Duty cars, Trucks and SUV's. The use of Semi-Metallic Brake Pads is highly recommended for Towing, Work Trucks and Sports cars. The performance of Semi-Metallic pads is immediate and are great for high heat applications and keep your breaking noise free. Ceramic Brake Pads are ideal for Compact and Mid-Range cars and light duty Trucks and SUV's. They are highly not recommended for any type of heavy applications such as towing or work trucks. Ceramic Pads are designed to wear longer and provide very little brake dust which keeps those wheels looking clean.

Leon Rotella - Make-A-Wish Subaru Project 

Leon was intrigued by a WRX that was modified on the West Coast and put up to auction by a Subaru dealer, who donated the WRX to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Leon spent the night browsing the web and found the online auction. He loved the purpose of the auction and decided to place a bid before heading off to bed. The next morning he found out, he had a lot of explaining to do to his wife as he was the proud owner of a Subaru WRX!
Leon spent his spare time modifying his 2006 WRX, which he named “Beatrice”. His vision of building Beatrice was creating a street version of the WRC rally machines he watched on TV. One thing was certain: Leon never once forgot the purpose of this modified Subaru. Just as he always enjoyed helping others, he would continue to fulfill Beatrice’s purpose to raise funds towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which he did at car shows with a little table and jar placed next to her.
Up until Leon’s final weeks he always spoke about Beatrice who was parked in his driveway at home due to Leon’s illness, which kept him confined to his bed.
Leon was a true friend to us all, and with the support from his family and friends, we are working to finish Leon’s dream of transforming Beatrice into a street rally machine. Together as a Subaru family, we will not only continue Leon’s legacy of giving to the Make-A-Wish foundation, but also allow sick children to appreciate and enjoy one man’s vision for the cause!
