• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood and find the battery

• Release the hood latch and secure the hood with the prop rod.
• Locate the battery in the engine bay.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative terminal

• Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to loosen the negative terminal clamp.
• Remove the negative cable and move it aside so it cannot touch the battery post.

Step 3: Disconnect the positive terminal

• Use the 10mm socket to loosen the positive terminal clamp.
• Remove the positive cable and keep it away from metal parts.

Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down

• Use the 10mm socket and extension to remove the battery hold-down hardware.
• Keep all bolts and brackets together so they are easy to reinstall.

Step 5: Lift out the old battery

• Use a battery strap or lift handle to remove the battery from the tray.
• Battery is heavy. Lift with your legs, not your back.

Step 6: Clean the battery tray and terminals

• Use a battery terminal cleaner to clean corrosion from the cable ends.
• Wipe the tray clean and make sure no debris is left behind.

Step 7: Install the new battery

• Place the new battery into the tray in the same position as the old one.
• Reinstall the hold-down hardware with the 10mm socket.
• Torque to 8-10 Nm (71-89 in-lbs) if you are able to verify the fastener size and design on your battery clamp.

Step 8: Reconnect the terminals

• Install the positive cable first and tighten it with the 10mm socket.
• Install the negative cable last and tighten it with the 10mm socket.
• Torque to 5-7 Nm (44-62 in-lbs) for the terminal clamps.

Step 9: Protect the connections

• Spray a light coat of battery terminal protectant spray on both terminals.
• Make sure the cables are fully seated and cannot rotate by hand.
