📋 Before You Begin

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Release the air cleaner housing

• Use the LED work light to inspect the housing and confirm that no loose debris is sitting around its edges.
• Use your gloved fingers to release each metal retaining clip around the housing lid.
• No screwdriver is needed; forcing the clips with a tool can damage the plastic housing.

Step 2: Lift the housing lid

• Use both gloved hands to lift the clip side of the lid.
• Disengage the lid from the locating tabs on the opposite side without pulling on the attached intake tube.
• Move the lid only far enough to access the filter. Sensor or hose disconnection is not required.
• Do not strain the intake tube.

Step 3: Remove the old filter

• Use your gloved hands to note the filter’s orientation, then lift it straight out.
• Inspect the old filter for heavy dirt, oil, water, or animal nesting material.
• Do not shake loose dirt toward the clean-air outlet leading to the engine.

Step 4: Clean and inspect the housing

• Use the shop vacuum with 25mm crevice nozzle to remove debris from the bottom of the housing.
• Use the LED work light to inspect the housing, drain area, lid tabs, and sealing groove for damage.
• Keep the vacuum nozzle away from the clean-air outlet and any sensor components.
• Never blow dirt out with compressed air.

Step 5: Install the new air filter

• Use clean, gloved hands to place the new 5.0L engine air filter into the lower housing in the same orientation as the original.
• Use the LED work light to verify that the filter’s rubber perimeter seal sits flat and evenly inside the sealing groove.
• Do not apply oil, grease, or sealant to the filter.

Step 6: Close the housing

• Use both gloved hands to engage the housing lid’s locating tabs first.
• Lower the lid while checking that the filter seal does not shift or become pinched.
• Use your gloved fingers to secure every metal retaining clip.
• No torque specification applies because this housing uses hand-operated clips rather than threaded fasteners.

Step 7: Perform a final inspection

• Use the LED work light to inspect the full housing seam for gaps.
• Use both gloved hands to gently check that the lid and intake tube are secure.
• Remove the shop vacuum, LED work light, old filter, and all other items before closing the hood.
